Xylose is a constituent of xylan and is found in plants as well as in animal heparin, chondroitin, and glycoproteins. In certain glycoproteins, it serves as the linking unit between the carbohydrate chain and serine (or threonine).
Xylose is a constituent of xylan and is found in plants as well as in animal heparin, chondroitin, and glycoproteins. In certain glycoproteins, it serves as the linking unit between the carbohydrate chain and serine (or threonine). To date, free xylose has not been detected in nature. Xylose can facilitate intercellular communication by serving as a component of glycoconjugates on cell‑membrane receptors. Furthermore, xylose exhibits antibacterial and antifungal properties, particularly against Gram‑negative bacteria and Streptococcus faecalis, and it may promote the growth of beneficial gut microorganisms.
Xylose is widely present in plant hemicelluloses in the form of high‑molecular‑weight xylan, which is obtained by acid or enzymatic hydrolysis of xylan. Consequently, most xylose‑producing processes generate effluents with a high suspended‑solid content. Currently, the predominant industrial route for xylose production uses corn cobs as feedstock, involving steps such as hydrolysis, neutralization, decolorization, separation, concentration, and crystallization. Although decolorization is an essential step in xylose manufacturing, it typically consumes large quantities of activated carbon—up to 150 kg per ton of xylose. Moreover, prolonged use of activated carbon can lead to its deactivation. By employing nanofiltration membrane separation, decolorization and impurity removal can be accomplished in a single stage, reducing the need for decolorizing resins and activated carbon, lowering operating costs, and enhancing product quality.
Nanofiltration membrane technology meets hygiene standards, offers high flux, and is well suited for applications in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetics industries. Our products are meticulously engineered with superior performance, helping companies reduce capital investment, lower operating costs, and decrease specific energy consumption. By cutting expenses and delivering greater value, we enable enterprises to achieve industrial upgrading.
